Remember last Friday when we were all freaking out about the arrival of a couple of inches of snow? Once again I bought into the hype. I brought in loads of firewood, made sure the yard was picked up and put out the birdfeeders.
Putting out the birdfeeders just before the first snowfall is a ritual of mine. I hear what the experts say about keeping your birdfeeders away until the bears hibernate. I figure that they decide to hibernate once they see snow. Is there any scientific proof for that?
Anyways, I have one feeder near our dinning room window that gets sunflower seed.
And two off our front deck that get suet.
I have heard that a snowfall will send the birds searching for something to replace their ground food that is now covered up.
Although we did not get much snow, (mostly a sleet/rain/snow mixture) the word got out to the neighborhood birds that food was available!
I love the birds that the suet attracts. This one hung out on the cage for about three minutes before moving on. Usually we get woodpeckers that are black and white, sometimes with a bit of blue mixed in with their feathers.
You have to be quick with the camera to get birds at the sunflower feeder. I caught this one and can testify that it was a busy place on Sunday morning.
It wasn’t too exciting of a weekend. Waiting for snow that never came, some Christmas shopping and football.
But there was a end-of-driveway find!
This beauty was just a couple doors down from where we live. I am a fine connoisseur of older Ariens snow blowers.
This one is pretty much junk but there are many pieces I will take off it to keep my other snow blowers going.
Yes, I said snow blowers. Plural. A story for another time.
I hope your weekend was a good one! -Kevin
