My weekend in five photos.

Hot enough for ya?

If I hear that one more time you might hear my scream from 81 Woodard Road here in Greenfield. It is August. It is supposed to be hot. Yes, I wish it wasn’t this hot and humid for 5 days in a row.

It was a good weekend nevertheless and the fun started on Friday at Connor’s baseball game. He is playing in a short-season summer league in Keene. On Friday, for the first time ever, he pitched in a game.

And I gotta say, he wasn’t half bad! I have been pressuring him to ask the coach to pitch and I might have asked the coach to tell Connor he was needed on the mound. After some persuading, he headed out and grabbed the ball.

On his first pitch, the batter hit into a ground ball. One pitch, one out. The second batter hit a single. Connor struck out the third batter. The fourth batter hit a long shot that hit the fence, almost a home run. Connor didn’t get too frazzled and got out of the inning. On the way to the dugout, his teammates (most of whom Connor barely knows) were commenting…..”That was your first time pitching? You did great”  I was beaming.

Saturday morning I joined some members of my Kiwanis Club and helped install some stations we built for a story walk in town.

This is my fellow Kiwanian, Ken who has dedicated a ton of time to this project. There are 18 stations in all that we built and they are now installed along a nature path in Winchester. Soon pages of a story will be placed in each one for kids and families to enjoy along the path. Once again, Kiwanis gets it done!

On Saturday night we dodged the raindrops, dried the track when it did rain and got the race in at Monadnock Speedway.

Here is a photo during a quick rain shower. It had rained so hard earlier that Lake Monadnock was created in the infield! I shared announcer duties with my friend Dave Sutherland and eventually we got to call some good races. Some of the point battles are really close at Monadnock and we will make sure to pass along that information coming up each Saturday morning in our Checkered Flag Report show on Bear Country 95.3 at 10AM.

Yesterday I tried something new with the fresh corn we got from Picadilly Farm in Winchester. I made Mexican street corn!

It was delicious! I shucked the corn and placed it right on the grill. Once cooked, we pasted the ears with a dressing of sour cream, gorgonzola, cilantro and spice. It was messy, but so good.

Those are the highlights from this weekend. The air conditioners continue to run all the time, the cats are melting on the carpet and Ann’s black-eyed Susan’s look great.

Have a great week!
