I was saying this morning that I have a Franklin County Fair hangover!
I spent a good portion of yesterday and Saturday at one of our favorite annual events but before I get to what happened there, I must mention something special that happened on Friday night.
My Winchester Kiwanis Club had our 75th Anniversary Celebration!
We had a wonderful evening of food, speakers and fun. I continue to learn more about the history of our small club and the difference that it has made in Winchester. I am quite proud of everyone’s efforts and I look forward to serving with these great people for years to come.
On Saturday, I headed to the Franklin County Fair and for the first time ever I was the announcer at a fried dough eating contest. There were two contests. One for kids.
And another for adults. Look at the size of those fried doughs from Hager’s! No youth were able to finish the fried dough in the allotted 10 minutes. And only one adult was able to in their competition.
28 year old Shawn from Greenfield was the adult winner. Here is my interview with him.
After the fried dough eating contest, it was demo derby time! 
Here is the result of one of the mini-vans on Saturday night. I was waiting for someone to drive right up into this guy’s back seat!
On Sunday it was back to the Fair and before night #2 of the Demo, I had a chance to to check out the famous Roundhouse. This year there was an interesting/creepy display about….well…your body after you die.
There was information on having a traditional burial, a burial at sea, a “green” burial and other options. Who knew there are so many options for people to take care of your body after you die! Although it was interesting, I am not sure why this was in the Roundhouse at the Fair!
I also observed a fine pair of Pink Banana Squash.
And then it was off to night #2 of the Demolition Derby.
More smashing and crashing. The big 8 cylinder cars were out on the track on Sunday and boy were they LOUD! My ears are still ringing this morning! I am also saying “What?” more than usual.
After the derby it was time for a fried dough with maple cream from the Hager’s.
The line went past the Baby Barnyard and out to the track! It was well worth the wait though.
