It is 51 miles from my house to the Cummington Fairgrounds. I made that trip twice this weekend! Both times to announce the demolition derby for Stoney Roberts.
Friday night was pretty good. Saturday was crazy !
On Saturday morning I broadcasted live at Sonia’s in Orange and got our last 10 qualifiers for the Gas ‘n Go Summer.
(Congratulations to Cindy in Colrain. This morning we drew her name as the grand prize winner and she won $2000 in gasoline courtesy of the Wax Barn in Whately.)
Then it was off to Cummington again. This was the scene right when we turned off Route 9 in Cummington.
Traffic all the way up the hill! Luckily we left early and got there in time to walk around and check out some derby cars. I took Amelia, Connor and their friend for a night of fun.
This car was Connor’s favorite. A bit later on in the evening it came in 3rd in its feature.
There was a lot of people there!
And my lucky kids had some good seats.
Please notice the safety glasses. When you sit close at the demo, you have to be ready to get muddy or catch the occasional rock that might get kicked up.
After the fun at the demo, we went down and enjoyed the rides and food. An like every year, I had to visit the nickel pitch.
This booth has been run by the Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Department as long as I can remember. In fact, about 15 years ago, the asked me to help them one night when Bear Country 95.3 had a live broadcast at the Cummington Fair. My kids love this booth. I have yet to land a nickel on one of the yellow or red circles and win a king size Reese’s. There is always next year!
I hope you had a great weekend! -Kevin
