My weekend in seven photos. Racing, bikes, racing and a flag.

Has the wind stopped? That was quite a few really windy days in a row! Thankfully it calmed down this weekend and the weather was mostly good for everything we had planned.

Both days this weekend, I spent a crazy amount of time at Monadnock Speedway. It was their opening weekend and as I have mentioned before, I lend a hand with the announcer duties at the track.  I love local racing anyways and the tower at Monadnock is a great spot to see a race.

This photo was Saturday afternoon and captures four out of the five announcers on the microphone. That is Randy on the right. (Randy is on our Checkered Flag Report show on Saturday mornings on Bear Country 95.3) The immortal David Sutherland is at the left. Dave has been calling races at Monadnock before many of you were born. And in the center is the great Ben Dodge who came up from Connecticut to call the Tri-Track Modified Race. Not pictured is John Gates who announced the truck race. Great group of guys to work with.

I was back at Monadnock on Sunday afternoon but not before helping out at the Winchester Kiwanis Bike Rodeo. I have been a member of Kiwanis for about a year now. I have found it to be rewarding as our group continues to look for ways to help out kids in our community and around the world.

So….why do they call it a bike rodeo? Honestly I had no idea until I googled it.  No roping of bicyclists is involved, rather we teach bike safety, help fix bikes and provide helmets.

Some kids brought their own bikes. Others registered to win some that we had to give away. Every kid walked away with a new helmet.

And we also checked to make sure their bikes were safe.

After the bike rodeo it was back to Monadnock!

Usually there is only one race on the weekend, but for the opening weekend, they had two. Both days featuring a big modified race.

I got to see the great Bob Whitcomb.

Bob is the gentleman on the right. He owned the team that won the Daytona 500 back in 1990. The race on Sunday was named for him. Great guy!

This weekend I also found time to put up an important flag.

I hope you had a great weekend! -Kevin
