ATHOL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The annual River Rat Parade was canceled this year due to safety concerns with Saturday morning’s precipitation. The 60th River Rat Race went on as scheduled with Adam Gelinas and Patrick Madden coming in first place, Brent Lyesiuk and John Berry finished second. 

There were approximately 150 runners in this year’s Big Cheese 5K, part of the River Rat Race weekend events. Jamie Kennedy of Athol took first place overall, Mike Babineau came in second and Cameron Woodcock took third.
