ADUs grow under Affordable Homes Act

BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Governor’s Office has released new data on the rising number of applications for Accessory Dwelling Units or ADUs that are now allowed by-right on single-family properties statewide.

According to the report, in the first six months of 2025 844 applications for ADUs have been filed and at least 550 of them have been approved.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll said the administration is working to add homes that fit all stages of life with the Affordable Homes Act.

So far, the concentration of ADU applicants remains on the Eastern side of the state
