Brattleboro fire displaces several, injures two

BRATTLEBORO, VT (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Multiple residents were displaced and two sustained minor injuries in a Brattleboro, Vermont fire on Saturday. The fire department responded at approximately 1:42 p.m. to an alarm activation at 107 Elliot Street and found the fire at an apartment on the 6th floor. The sprinkler caused significant water damage to 17 additional apartments.

At approximately 1:42 p.m., the Brattleboro Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at 107 Elliot Street. Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire contained to a single apartment on the 6th floor within the building. The building’s sprinkler system activated as designed, successfully suppressing the fire. However, the sprinkler activation caused significant water damage to 17 additional apartments.
Two individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident. Both were evaluated at the scene and transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for further medical assessment.
The Brattleboro Fire Department received support from the Brattleboro Police Department, Brattleboro Department of Public Works, Brattleboro Recreation & Parks, Chesterfield Fire, Keene Fire, Guilford Fire, Putney Fire, Dummerston Fire, Greenfield Fire, Westminster Fire, Cheshire County Ambulance, and Green Mountain Power. Their coordinated efforts contributed to the rapid stabilization of the incident and ensured adequate resources for both fire suppression and resident assistance.
Due to the extent of the water damage, multiple residents were displaced. The American Red Cross and the Brattleboro Housing Authority are actively assisting those affected by providing temporary housing solutions and support services. Restoration efforts are already underway in the damaged units.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No determination has been made at this time.
