GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Northwestern DA’s Office is working with Children’s Advocacy Centers on a community education initiative featuring a free community screening of the Frontline documentary “Sex Trafficking in America” at the Greenfield Garden Cinemas on May 29th. The screening will be followed by a live panel discussion with a survivor of human trafficking, Northampton Police Captain Victor Caputo, and staff from the Children’s Advocacy Centers.

From the Northwestern DA’s Office:

Public invited to free screening of documentary on sex trafficking

A free community screening of the Frontline documentary “Sex Trafficking in America” will be offered at Greenfield Garden Cinema as part of a community education initiative undertaken by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office in collaboration with the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Hampshire County and Franklin County/North Quabbin.

The documentary follows investigations into cases of human trafficking and features interviews with survivors of human trafficking as well as members of law enforcement.

The film screening will be followed by a live panel discussion including a survivor of human trafficking, staff members of the two Children’s Advocacy Centers and Northampton Police Captain of Operations Victor Caputo.

The event is set for Wednesday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the Greenfield Garden Cinema, 361 Main St., Greenfield.

Funding for the screening comes from a $60,141 grant from the state’s Human Trafficking Enforcement and Training Program to educate mandated reporters, school staff, medical personnel as well as the community at large about commercial sexual exploitation of children, the myriad complications of such investigations, and ways community members can help keep children safe.

That grant will also fund training for area law enforcement with the goal of developing a regional group of investigators with advanced skills in obtaining digital evidence and the technological expertise to conduct complex human trafficking investigations.
