GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The first snowstorm of the winter season is set to hit the area on Tuesday, with the chance of plowable snow for the first time since late last winter.

As of 11:00 a.m. on Monday, the storm that wreaked havoc and disrupted travel across the Midwest over the Thanksgiving weekend was slowly moving east and is expected to intensify off the mid-Atlantic coast before heading into New England.

Snow is expected to begin by early-to-mid morning Tuesday before exiting the area late Tuesday night. Meteorologists have been hedging on exact snowfall totals for our area, but the National Weather Service is predicting about three to five inches of accumulation, with higher amounts possible in the hill towns.

In advance of the storm, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 7:00 Tuesday morning through 1:00 Wednesday morning.

The expected snowfall has prompted several area municipalities to put parking bans into effect.

UPDATE (2:00 p.m. Monday 12/1/25): The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Franklin County in effect from 7:00 Tuesday morning through 1:00 Wednesday morning. The NWS is now calling for snow accumulations of between six and nine inches for our area.
