GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The City of Greenfield officially has its new fire station.

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held Monday morning at the new, $21.7 million-dollar state-of-the-art facility at 41 Main Street.

“Welcome to 41 Main Street, the new home of your Fire Department!”, said Fire Chief Robert Strahan to the assembled crowd in downtown Greenfield. “Many city departments, from the planning and zoning, committees such as the Building Committee and Tree Committee, and Public Safety Committee, multiple city departments and councils, and former Mayor Roxann Wedegartner and (current) Mayor Desorgher, I thank them all for the important roles they played in achieving this amazing day.”

Desorgher said the city now has a facility befitting a top-notch Fire Department. “The Greenfield Fire Department personifies perseverance, tenacity, and lasting valor.” said Desorgher. “I am so incredibly proud of each one of you that is part of our city. I could not be happier that this state-of-the-art facility will be a great asset in the 21st century and beyond.”

Strahan also acknowledged the men and women of the department for what they’ve gone through over the past two years when headquartered in a temporary facility on Hope Street.

“We would not be here today if it wasn’t for each and every one of you,” said Strahan. “Your hard work, perseverance, and patience to endure 920 days in a temporary facility–but who’s counting–without disruption of our services, and without missing a single call, is remarkable.”

The Fire Department will host an Open House on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during which time the public will be able to tour the new station.
