43 year-old man fatally struck by train in Deerfield

DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UPDATE 9:55 PM: Thursday morning an Amtrak train fatally struck a 43 year-old man in the area of Thayer Street, Deerfield. The train was traveling south from Greenfield to New Haven, Connecticut with passengers on board. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deerfield Police, State Police, detectives with the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Amtrak Police, South Deerfield fire, and South County EMS all responded to the scene.  The incident remains under investigation. 

An Amtrak train has reportedly struck an individual on the tracks in the area of Thayer Street in Deerfield. South Main and Old State roads were temporarily closed Thursday morning but have since reopened. The passengers on the train are being transported by bus.
