Paul Newell Named New DPW Director

GREENFIELD — The City of Greenfield has hired Paul Newell as the Department of Public Works’ new director. Newell, one of the city’s most seasoned staff members, has worked in the Greenfield DPW since January 1989.

Current DPW Director Marlo Warner will be departing from his role on Friday, July 11. He will be assuming a new title as the director of the Hatfield Department of Public Works, following decades of distinguished service to the city of Greenfield.

During his three decades in the DPW, Newell gained experience across several divisions. He worked as an assistant mechanic, mechanic, master mechanic, foreman, assistant field superintendent, and field superintendent. Additionally, Newell served as the city’s first certified tree warden.

Newell was named the Greenfield DPW deputy director in September 2024, supporting critical executive functions of the department.

“Paul is a tireless worker who has developed a comprehensive understanding of DPW operations across his career,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher. “His decades of experience will be a tremendous asset as our new director. I would also like to thank Director Warner for his tremendous leadership of the DPW and wish him well on his new venture.”

“I am honored to be named the Greenfield DPW director,” said DPW Director Paul Newell. “I look forward to collaborating with the DPW leadership team and staff to tackle new projects that strengthen our city’s infrastructure.”

“Paul has been extremely dedicated to the City of Greenfield for many years,” said DPW Director Marlo Warner. “He’s earned a wealth of knowledge in all DPW divisions across his 30-plus years with the department. I wish him great success in his new role, and thank everyone in Greenfield for their support over the years.”
