GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — With the arrival of spring, comes street sweeping. Greenfield’s contractor is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 25th, weather dependent. No parking ban is to be anticipated during the week and a half of street sweeping.

Spring Street Sweeping to Begin in Greenfield
GREENFIELD, MA — Street sweeping in Greenfield is expected to begin during the week of March 23, with the City’s contractor tentatively scheduled to start work on Wednesday, March 25. Sweeping is expected to be completed within a week and a half, weather dependent. No parking ban is anticipated during sweeping.
Residents may continue to utilize on-street parking unless notified otherwise. Parking ban notifications are issued via the City’s Greenfield Alert system, on social media, and on the City’s homepage alert. Street sweeping may occur during the day, at night, and in the early morning.
Sweeping will begin in the downtown business district, followed by municipal parking lots (including schools), and residential streets. The City cannot provide sweeping dates for specific streets. Residents who want to ensure that specific spaces are swept should avoid parking in those spaces during the sweeping period.
Most streets east of I-91 and south of Route 2 within Greenfield will be swept. A sweeping map is available here, with the sweeping area highlighted in yellow.

Streets outside of the sweeping area are excluded due to budget constraints, the typical absence of curbing on those streets (which allows grit to wash off the street), and lower volumes of bike and pedestrian traffic.
Important tips to consider:
• Do not sweep sand into piles; the sweepers are more effective if the sand is not consolidated.
• Residents who want to dispose of sand on their own should not place sand in the trash.
• Do not rake grass, leaves or branches into the street.
• Your patience with the noise and dust is appreciated. Water is used for dust control, but a small amount of dust is unavoidable.
