Thinking About Replacing Your Oil Tank? Now May Be the Time to Consider Propane
With heating oil prices soaring in Massachusetts, Tognarelli HVAC offers homeowners another option for staying warm this winter.
Has your oil company told you it’s time to replace your aging oil tank? Before investing in another tank, consider whether converting your existing oil heating system to propane could be a better long-term solution.
Tognarelli HVAC can help homeowners make the switch, potentially eliminating the need for an oil tank and reducing their dependence on increasingly expensive heating oil.
The timing is especially important in 2026. Massachusetts heating oil prices have climbed sharply, with the state reporting an average of approximately $6.12 per gallon in early October. That’s a substantial increase from the same time last year, putting additional pressure on household heating budgets.
Propane offers homeowners another fuel option worth evaluating, particularly when an aging oil tank needs replacement.
Why Consider Switching to Propane?
Beyond the potential financial advantages, propane offers several practical benefits for homeowners.
No more oil tank. Converting to propane can eliminate the need for your existing heating oil storage tank, depending on the installation. That means one less piece of aging equipment to maintain or replace.
Efficient, dependable heating. Modern propane furnaces and boilers can deliver efficient home heating. Depending on the equipment selected, homeowners may also be able to use propane for hot water, cooking and other household needs.
A cleaner-burning fuel. Propane generally produces fewer carbon emissions at the point of combustion than heating oil for an equivalent amount of heat. Actual environmental benefits depend on equipment efficiency and overall energy use.
An opportunity to reassess your heating costs. Fuel prices fluctuate, and the best choice depends on more than the price per gallon. Your home’s heating needs, equipment efficiency, installation expenses and local fuel prices all matter. Tognarelli HVAC can help you explore your conversion options and obtain a price for your home.
